Rafiki Project Update June 2008

April 2008 Wish List

My dear friends,

I have just received word that our beloved Chairman of Rafiki AIDS Ministry in Kenya, Rev. Peter Nyoro died this morning at Kenyatta Hospital where he has been hospitalized. Please keep his family, the Rafiki Family in your prayers. I ask your prayers.

John Nganga

Dear All,

Fr. John and I have just spoken, and he feels strongly that he should go to Africa to attend Rev. Peter Nyoro’s funeral and be with his family, as well as the Rafiki family—staff and children.

Rev. Peter Nyoro’s last thoughts and words were supporting Marafiki, and he was to begin an even more active role this September. He will truly be missed by all, and Marafiki will need to fill the void that his death has brought.

In behalf of Marafiki and these emergent needs, I am appealing for your prayers and financial contributions. Donations to assist with this unexpected trip may be made by going to the Marafiki Website and earmarking your contribution “Fr. John’s Emergent Travel Fund:” www.Marafikiglobalaidsministry.com

In Christ,
Rev. Pamela Barras

Orphanage in Kenya depends on Columbus

Pray for Kenya

My friends, I write this to kindly request that you continue to pray for our country. There is a lot of pain and suffering on both sides. Only God will enable healing and reconciliation to continue. We Kenyans are peace-loving people and we have co-existed together despite our ethnic, political and religious difference.

Concerning our orphanage, I spoke to Ezekiel, the Project Manager yesterday. He indicated that things were very tense in Kikuyu. The staff will try to resume to work today depending on the situation. I have just received several emails from him from the office, which is a positive sign. The kids were with their relatives for Christmas and New Year celebrations and there are expected to be back orphanage this weekend depending on the situation.

We invite you to pray for the situation in Kenya. Some of my friends have lost their loved ones and some are still in those areas affected by the crisis. Thanks for your prayers and love for our country. Pray that there will be a dialogue between our leaders and a common ground will be reached for the honor and glory of God.

AIDS Orphans in Africa need your support. Every minute, another child is orphaned by the HIV/AIDS virus in Kenya. The hardships and terrors they face alone on the streets are nearly impossible for us to imagine.
There is hope for the children in the most extreme need, because Marafiki is there. The Marafiki Global AIDS Ministry in Nairobi has saved many children from the horrors of living on the streets, both through our Marafiki Children's Center Orphanage and our Adopt-A-Child Program.
We ask you to help these desperate children whose families have been swept away by the AIDS epidemic. They have nowhere else to turn for life's most basic necessities - food, clothing, safety, and schooling. Your contribution will mean everything.

  • Your contribution will help expand the Orphanage immediately to bring another 33 children into safety from the streets.

  • Your contribution will help provide three healthy meals a day, every day, for these children.

  • Your contribution will help provide school fees and books to give them a chance to be productive, contributing members of their society.
